There Was Light Before the Sun and Will Be Again

let-there-be-light.jpg
God created the heaven and the earth and it was good, (Job 38:7)  then it became 'tohu' (without form) and 'bohu' (void) probably wrecked by Satan as in Job 41, when he was cast to the earth. (Rev 12:4)

But how was there light on the first day when the sun and moon were not put in place until day four?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gen 1:1-3
(1)  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.(2)  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.(3)  And God said, Let there be light: (H216) and there was light. (H216)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "Let there be Light" command has a spiritual component. In fact, I think this light is wholly spiritual as the Spirit of God moved upon the waters prior to the command for light. So there was light, "Day" and there was darkness, "Night". As our physicists tell us, light does not exist by itself without some energy behind it causing it. The natural and default status is darkness. Darkness is merely the absence of light. There was "Day" and "Night" at this point but without the sun and moon.
So, it seems to me that this "light" is spiritual and emanates from the glory of God and his Christ, the day star.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2Pe 1:19
(19)  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

This "light" is not the kind of light that merely shines in the darkness as to afford physical sight but the Hebrew seems to indicate something more. This light "illuminates", as in “reveals” spiritual truth. This light is Strongs H216.

H216

From H215; illumination or (concretely) luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.): - bright, clear, + day, light (-ning), morning, sun.
Total KJV occurrences: 122
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sun, moon and stars were created for signs and seasons, for days and years to give light upon the earth. Notice that in verse 16 God sets the sun and moon in place to "rule" over the day and over the night but they "shine" (H215). They do not "illuminate" (H216).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gen 1:15-16
(15) And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light (H215) upon the earth: and it was so.(16) And God made  two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night:he made the stars also.

H215

A primitive root; to be (causatively make) luminous (literally and metaphorically): - X break of day, glorious, kindle, (be, en-, give, show) light (-en, -ened), set on fire, shine.
Total KJV occurrences: 42

Further, after Christ establishes the Kingdom and it is properly prepared for God the Father, the old heavens and earth pass away (Rev 21:1) and there is no longer any sun or moon. None is needed as God the Father and Jesus Christ provide the light. Where does this come from? Seems to be that as all things are restored that same light that emanated from God's glory at Gen 1:3 now provides the light.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rev 21:23-25
(23) And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.(24) And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.(25) And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rev 22:5
(5) And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's interesting, as I was putting this together I was reminded of a previous blog post - Rise and Shine
It offers further "illumination" on the contrasts between light and darkness and in particular seems to indicate darkness will once again cover the earth. (Isa 61:2) This has to be a spiritual darkness the way is it described. This darkness could be what's described in the 4th Trumpet or the 5th Vial but instead seems to be a darkness that just covers the earth in and of itself as the light of truth is rejected and removed from it.

May we all walk in the light of the Lamb of God.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Joh 8:12
(12)  Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Who Am I

My photo
I strive to be as the Bereans spoken of in Acts 17:10-11 receiving the word with all readiness of mind, and searching the scriptures daily, whether those things are so. Check up on me in your own bible. Should you find me in error please let me know immediately. We must prove all things (1Thes 5:21) and rightly divide the word of truth (2Tim 2:15) together lest we be deceived. (Matt 24:24)
