The Signs of the Times

All through the bible there are references that we should be watching and preparing ourselves for our Lord's return. As with so many other topics, the information we need is spread throughout the bible in various places, here a little, there a little, line upon line, precept upon precept. (Isa 28:10)

God placed the sun, moon and stars in their places to act as markers (Gen 1:14) or signs ('ôth (Strongs H226) - sign, signal, mark) and seasons (mô‛êd ( Strongs H4150) - appointment). We are not to be ignorant of such things and are to recognize their importance and meaning. (Isa 56:10)

What follows is not meant to be perceived as an attempt to "set a date" or "predict" when Christ will return. It is meant only as a means to provoke thought and discernment and hopefully, cause each of us to be more watchful for the signs of the times.

Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven. (Deut 4:15; 19)

Mark 13:33-37 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. (34) For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. (35) Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: (36) Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. (37) And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Matt 24:42-44 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. (43) But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. (44) Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Pro 7:19-20 For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey: (20) He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

The "goodman" is Jesus Christ who returned to heaven to be at the right hand of the Father until the appointed time to return to earth as King of kings and Lord of lords.

This word "appointed" is the Hebrew word "kese", Strongs H3677, Apparently from Strongs H3680; meaning properly fullness or the full moon, that is, its festival: - (time) appointed.

Strongs H3680, "kâsâh", a primitive root; meaning properly to plump, that is, fill up hollows; by implication to cover (for clothing or secrecy): - clad self, close, clothe, conceal, cover (self), (flee to) hide, overwhelm.

In other words, a "concealed full moon", or full lunar eclipse! Notice further it means at the time of its festival, the festival of the full moon, the Feast of Tabernacles! (Zec 14:16)

Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

Acts 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

Rev 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

There will be a total solar eclipse and a total lunar eclipse before the great and terrible day of the Lord.

Matt 16:3 ... O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

The Pharisees and Sadducees could not discern the signs of the times because they weren't watching! We are commanded to Watch!

We have all been told that no man knoweth the day or the hour but the Father. (Matt 24:36) We may not know the exact day or the hour but we're told in, Mat 24:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

And also in, 1Thess 5:1-6 tell us, But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. (2) For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. (3) For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. (4) But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. (5) Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. (6) Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

We who walk in the light will not be caught unawares if we keep watch!

Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch!

Solar eclipses have been associated with civil unrest or distress. To have a total solar eclipse 3 years in a row all falling on or near the same day on the Hebrew calendar, the 1st of Av, seems to be more than coincidental. When one considers that shortly after the 2008 event, the world financial collapse began and continues into 2011, it gives additional cause for consternation.

When four consecutive lunar eclipses are all total eclipses, the group is known as a tetrad. Notice also, the eclipses in 2014 and 2015 fall on days of spiritual significance on the Hebrew calendar.

There have been 3 previous Tetrads tied to Hebrew holidays -

The Tetrad of 1967 - 1968 - The 6-days War where Israel secured Jerusalem and captured the Sinai, Golan Heights, Gaza Strip and West Bank

April 24 1967 -    Passover - Total Lunar Eclipse
October 18, 1967 - Feast of Tabernacles - Total Lunar Eclipse
April 13, 1968 - Passover - Total Lunar Eclipse
October 6, 1968 - Feast of Tabernacles - Total Lunar Eclipse

The Tetrad of 1949 - 1950 - The rebirth of the nation of Israel, Declared May 14, 1948

It should be noted here that even though Israel declared themselves a nation in 1948,  The first permanent government takes office on Jan 25, 1949.  Israel had a transitional government in 1948.   In this way the tetrad ties to the year 1949 for the first elected office of that year.

April 13, 1949 - Passover - Total Lunar Eclipse
October 7, 1949 - Feast of Tabernacles - Total Lunar Eclipse
April 2, 1950 -    Passover - Total Lunar Eclipse
September 26, 1950 - Feast of Tabernacles - Total Lunar Eclipse

The Tetrad of 1493 - 1494 - Expulsion of the Jews from Spain during the Spanish Inquisition

The actual expulsion deadline was July 30, 1492 but for some reason this tetrad has historically been tied to this event.

April 2, 1493 - Passover - Total Lunar Eclipse
September 25, 1493 - Feast of Tabernacles - Total Lunar Eclipse
March 22, 1494 - Passover - Total Lunar Eclipse
September 15, 1494 - Feast of Tabernacles - Total Lunar Eclipse

Editor's Note: Since both the restoration of Israel as a nation in 1948 and the 6-day War in 1967 were man-made attempts to bring about God's will on earth and not the true restoration of Jacob/Israel by the Redeemer of Israel, which will happen at Christ's return, I tend to believe that the coming tetrad may herald similar man-made events as well.  Since an evil generation seeks after a sign, it will be given one. But it may well foretell the introduction of the antichrist figure. There are too many things that have to happen before our Lord returns and there is not enough time before 2015 Tabernacles, in my opinion. However, our adversary will likely present a counterfeit before the genuine (Christ) returns. The genuine cannot appear first else there’s no place for the counterfeit. No man knows the day or the hour. Take heed lest ye be deceived.

Who Am I

My photo
I strive to be as the Bereans spoken of in Acts 17:10-11 receiving the word with all readiness of mind, and searching the scriptures daily, whether those things are so. Check up on me in your own bible. Should you find me in error please let me know immediately. We must prove all things (1Thes 5:21) and rightly divide the word of truth (2Tim 2:15) together lest we be deceived. (Matt 24:24)
